68C and A400 Happy New year. a friend of mine had some top header panel extensions that go on the top irons to seal. he had them cast in bronze, he made up some extra sets. now it is time to have them plated. we are talking about having them water plated rather then chrome or nickle. just checking what is you ford barner`s thoughts

Re: 68C and A400 They will be rubbing on the rubber seal which is like a find sandpaper.
Originally they were pot metal held on by squishing metal posts and the whole unit was plated together. Pretty sure they should be only Nickel plate, but it has been a while I would have to double check. So the chrome like paints that area available today would not match well what a proper plating would be. I have some machined stainless set up for screw on the back side that I bought from the one 68C parts guy in PA. He was the one that wore the hat with a headlamp bucket and made stainless parts. |

Originals were plated pot metal. I don’t really know what water plating is.....maybe I live under a rock! |
Re: 68C and A400 the last ones i has were made of stainless. very costly, but very nice. the water type plating is really pretty nice. them parts are really not exposed to the elements most of the time. and being made out of bronze they should hold up.

thanks guys you answered my question. these parts are only on the 68C and A400 here is a couple pictures. they are not on the 68A or B. I will be taking some to my plater

Re: 68C and A400 Hydroplating at one time was used quite extensively in the custom motocycle/chopper industry when those things were hot. I have seen wheel rims, gas tanks, fenders, helmets, pretty much anything that will fit in the tank. Its really a cool process. I would imagine it would hold up to the elements but like a lot of things I havent seen the results a few years down the road. But, I dont think it would cost too much to nickle plate those small parts. May as well do it right the first time around.

Re: 68C and A400 Since it's been awhile, I guess I have to go out in the 30 degrees to see what I have or don't have. How about taking pics with light behind the camera as the object is dark and shadowed.
