They never reproduced these did they? Does the brass fitting go with it?

Yes.It was an authorized accessory. You will see it mentioned and pictured in the 1932 Ford Book by David.Appears to be one done by Faltermeier yrs ago.Your temp has been replaced and the fluid has turned clear.Fitting also is a repo and yes goes with it.Mounts in the top radiator hose.

As Sheldon has indicated (Chapter 19). Yours appears to be an original that has been restored along with a reproduction fitting for the radiator hose. While your temperature fluid has lost its red color, at least it is still there as many of those restored lose their temperature fluid all together and have to be redone.

Note the difference in the shape of the very end of the probe of the NOS gauge in the photo below and yours. During the restoration process the tip is cut off to provide a means to replenish the fluid and a thread plug is used to seal it off.

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would add it here. This is the gauge that was in the Coupe. The end of the tube isn't supposed to be plugged correct?

No open

Re: 1932 dual guage

It is to left open so that the fluid level responds to changes in air pressure from the tank unit.

Does anyone make/sell new faces for the 32 dual gauge?

Re: 1932 dual guage

Renner's does not have the faces, only small parts.RS in AZ but last time I asked he would not sell them separately.

Here is a link to his 32 gauge parts. Not even the single gauge face.

My bad, I did not see that the question was for the dual gauge.

Re: 1932 dual guage

I have a duel gauge (fuel/temp) in my roadster. I have too much fluid on the temp. side and not enough on the fuel side. Does anyone rebuild them?

Re: 1932 dual guage

Is your gauge an original '32 ?

DavidG 01-23-2019 10:58 AM

Re: 1932 dual guage

If your gauge has never been 'fixed', the excess temperature fluid is likely symptomatic of some other problem such as a kink in the tubing or an air bubble in the line. If you inspect the line and see no kinks, often you can eliminate the air bubble by removing the gauge, straightening the line out and turning everything upside down with the bulb at the top and the gauge at the bottom. Another method, believe it or not, is to grab the line right at the gauge end and briskly swing the line in circles with the bulb at the end of the arc.

You can readily add fluid to the fuel gauge, with the trick being that it is the same liquid that is already in the gauge.

Not sure if it original 32 or early aftermarket. Here is the best picture I have of it right now. Will get a better one later. This actually shows more fluid on the fuel side that is there now.

Re: 1932 dual guage

Is there a way to add red to the temp gauge when the fluid turns clear?

DavidG 12-16-2020 08:42 AM

Re: 1932 dual guage

Short of opening the end of the probe (see #3 above) and replacing the fluid, no.
