1928, 1929 Closed Cab Pickup
 

Could anyone let me know how you tell the difference between a 28 and a 29 Closed Cab Pickup? Are there differences with the actual Cab?
Please advise.

The hole in the LH subframe where emergency brake handle was located. The park brake linkage on the 28 could have been tied into the service brakes. The 28 could have a multidisc clutch. The front engine mount could be a solid bolt to the frame. The date stamped on the front of the gas tank. There are 3 month allowances, maybe more on a closed cab. More 28 parts were used on pickups than cars in early 29. My first 2 choices to look at would be the gas tank date and then the hole in the subframe for parking brake. In your case you specifically asked about differences in the cab.

I recently looked at a club members closed cab that appeared to have a 4/29 tank date, a hole in the subframe and the front crossmember front engine mount was 28. The tank appeared to have been changed at one point as it had red primer where it had been scratched to the surface where there was no evidence of red primer anywhere else on the truck.

And then I noticed you are in England and that throws another curve into the equation. Is your truck RH or LH drive?

To make things interesting, I think the cab originated from South America, so it would have been right hand drive. I got it as a bare cab
Are there any differences in the Cab or external body panels between 28 and 29?

So am I right in thinking, that there are no obvious differences in the Cab between the two years 28-29

The very early 28 cabs had the rear window higher than later cabs.

There were at least 6 known changes with the Closed Cab body going into 1929:

From the MARC/MAFCA RG's and JS...

1.From Beginning of production through June 1928 the 1/2" flat cowl lacing was riveted directly to the cowl side panels; In July 1928 the cowl panel was extended out beyond the firewall;

2. There was a hole on the inside, lower left section for the Emergency Brake lever through June 1928...this hole was shortly discontinued when the Emergency Brake Lever was moved from this position to the Transmission Tower about June 1928;

3. Gas Tank...there were many changes with the 1928-1929 gas tank...Review this data to determine what you have: http://www.plucks329s.org/pdf/gastan...29gas_tank.pdf

4. Two holes were added to the body sub frame bottom rear corner, Right and Left, in May/June 1928 so the Closed Cab could be adapted to fit the "A" Frame in conjunction with the "AA" Frame;

5. Four different designs of the AA-83725 Rear-Upper (Back) Panel were used as stated above and as stated on page E-80 of the MARC/MAFCA RG's and JS;

6. Also the placement of the outside Rear View Mirror Bracket as stated above.

There may be more that I am unaware of but do your research and you can come up with a "window of production".
