Radio question
 

I have a 1948 Super Deluxe Convertible and with an original, but now non-working radio (unless you like to listen to static). Is there someone who repairs them or is there a period looking radio replacement option that anyone knows about?

George, It's getting hard to find people who work on old car radios. If you have a Old car parts supplier near you I would give them a call for a suggestion otherwise you might want to call a local antique store .Just an idea

Forker, did you check to be sure that the antenna is good and plugged in? if not you'll only get static. Is your radio the zenith wonder bar type? does the dial or bar move, I believe there is an adjustment screw on them as well, there is somone that sells a reprint of the schematic, and information. Check on ebay

Found this one on ebay, doesn't look to good, but maybe for parts, send him a message if it doesn't sell and offer him a figure.

Jake Fleming in Dallas, Texas works on our 36 to 48 Lincoln radios. Give him a call. Lincoln radios are Philco and Zenith manufactured same as Ford. Call him at 214 333 3197.

I got a 36 radio empty box and had someone put a new AM/FM radio in it and hook it up to the 36 radio knobs. At least I won't have to worry about tubes going bad.

It is important to adjust the trimmer to the antenna ---on my 46 it made the difference between nothing but static and good reception ---I think it was behind one of the knobs -but took a long thin screwdriver--they are always very near where the antenna goes into the radio

There is a man here (Chattanooga TN) that can/will rebuild your radio but the problem is that I do not know how to contact him at the moment. Probably can find out at our Mon Cruise in. He can make them AM or AM-FM and either 6 of 12 volt. I usually only see this guy during the summer cruise in but am sure some of the guys at Hardies will know how to contact him. Let me know if you need me to find out how to contact him.

go to www.turnswitch.com they have done a couple for me. Not exactly the cheapest around but I have been very pleased with the radios. They will make it am fm 6 or 12 volt pos or neg ground what ever you need and its all solid state. One of the radios I had them to rebuild was from my 47 Coupe I had. It sounded great and worked flawless.

I just had one fixed in my 54 merc. Was really satisified with the work and especially the turn around speed. Price was good also. Try [email protected]
