1932 Ford vin number location

Can anyone tell me where the vin numbers are located on a 1932 Ford passenger car? Thanks in advance.

I only know the locations on the 4 cylinder. First, on top of the bell housing on the drivers side. The second location is on the top of the frame, on the drivers side under the car body. Most likely both numbers are different. I use the number on the bell housing because it is easy to use. Ed

I've seen them on the drivers side frame rail in as many as 3 places! Right in front of the fire wall, under the body towards the front, and near the kick up in the rear-- all on the drivers side. They start and end with a star. Look hard, they didn't stamp things as uniform as they do today back in the day.

For the 4 cyl it is on top of the flywheel housing on a cast in boss. For the V8 it is on the transmission case. For both it is also on the top of the left frame rail near the steering box. This location is visible without removing anything. There are also two other locations on top of the left frame rail under the body (body must be removed to see them). Most of the time the DMV will require you go by the number on the frame since it is easy/common to replace transmissions and flywheel housings but not frames. Also see Van Pelt's excellent site: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...ialnumbers.htm

The only place that I can find it on my relatively early frame is inside of the firewall foot bolts. It can still be seen with the firewall mounted. I've looked for it under the body farther back but I don't see anything.

Sometimes they are REALLY hard to spot. On the last frame I was looking at the third set of #s (near the kick up) I had all but given up on when I realized they were there, stamped half on and half OFF the frame! Must have been a Friday afternoon :D :p

I'm a licensed vin verifier in California. All the 32's Ive done (over 75) have the vin on the frame by the left cowl, which sometimes is covered partly by the fender or cowl. I had to raise my Vicky to see all of it. Im waiting for an owner to lift his 3 window body so i can verify it. On all the ones i've inspected with the body off there were three different spots with the vin stamped on the frame. One by the left cowl, one half way down the left frame rail and the other is on the rear crossmember. This seems to be true for both B model and V8 which starts with 18. The Vin number was stamped on the trans berfore it was set in the frame and then they hand stamped the frame with that number.
