Tube Headers for Model A Does anyone know where I could buy tube headers for a model A? None of my catalogues seem to have them. Thank you. Junkj

Re: Tube Headers for Model A Hello, until you get answers you might try doing a search on Ford Barn for Tube Headers. Red's use to make them but I think they are out of business.

Re: Tube Headers for Model A You could always try BCCHOPIT over on the HAMB. He makes some nice Model A headers. Here's his website

Re: Tube Headers for Model A 3 Attachment(s)
Mine is an unusual case because it is a Model B Cragar conversion in a narrowed Model A frame but I built mine from a chevy v8 kit purchased from Summit for $100. Made my own flange and had a lot of tubing left over.

YOU are a fine builder/fabricator, my friend :) ! Can't wait to hear that Cragar engine light up !! Wish I had the coin for your other creation. |

Re: Tube Headers for Model A Not to steal your thread but what good would tube headers do? I'm interested because I have a touring engine in one of the cars.

Re: Tube Headers for Model A I really enjoy my Cast Iron exhaust header (manifold) on my Ron Kelley 'Touring' engine. It looks much more stock than the steel headers. Except for some possible 'Dry Lakes' usage, I would like to hear why some prefer 'Tube' headers over the heavier cast iron.

Re: Tube Headers for Model A CarlG --Where did you get the intake & exhaust manifolds?
What is the compression ratio on the Tod head? Nice looking motor :):) |
Re: Tube Headers for Model A Old28 - "Where did you get the intake & exhaust manifolds?"
-------------------------------------- You will find them listed on page 141 (intake) and page 142 (exhaust) of SNYDER'S 2016 catalog. Bratton's has them on page 65 of their 2016 catalog. Bert's has them on page 46 (exhaust Header) and page 48 (intake manifold - Weber). I am sure others carry them as well |

Exhaust - Tod Buttermore's prototype, now available @ Snyder's Head - Snyder's 5.5:1 Thanks. |

These are the Reds Tube Headers I bought.

Re: Tube Headers for Model A Is there any performance difference between a cast iron header and a tube header?

Re: Tube Headers for Model A I met the guys from Geardrive at the Colorado Hill Climb. I am not sure if they build one that is not lake style. Give them a call.

Re: Tube Headers for Model A "4-1 Headers
4-1 headers are designed so that all 4 exhaust pipes merge into one. In most dyno tests, this produces the most top end power since it usually offers the best flow characteristics for the engine at high engine speeds. 4-1 headers usually move the power band up" https://www.redline360.com/garage/4-...kes-more-power Somewhere I read the stock exhaust manifold flows quite well up to a point. http://www.modelaparts.net/dynosheet...ynosheets.html |
Re: Tube Headers for Model A A question for 1929,
How do you like that intake manifold? I see that Red's sells those as well as tube headers. Dirk |
Re: Tube Headers for Model A Well designed tube headers should be equal length and of a diameter that makes for a scavenge effect that will give a decent power increase
length and diameter are normally the result of trial on a dyno most of the off the shelf ones I have seen are not equal length so not much better then stock manifolds |
Re: Tube Headers for Model A CarlG -- Are you happy with the cast iron Tod exhaust header with your intake and head combination? Do you think a 6.2 head would add any more power or just put a bigger load on the bottom end?

Re: Tube Headers for Model A Quote:
I used the 5.5 head on this build just because it is what I had, plus the fact that Ron (the engine builder) said that the difference between the 5.5 & 6.1 wasn't all that great. He said that he could go up to 7. something without causing any problems on the bottom end (It's an inserted engine). I probably would have opted for one of Tod's new Winfield or Thomas heads, had they been available when I was having the engine built, but it wasn't worth the extra just to buy a new 6.1 from Snyder's at the time over the 5.5 I already had. |

Re: Tube Headers for Model A We used to reverse the stock throttle arm, to point UP & it worked well, BUT it was a QUICK throttle response, good for layin' SCRATCH-LOL.
With a multi-disc clutch, I could lay a "little" scratch, with a second gear take off! Of course, I had a 4:11 Crown Wheel & Pinion. Henry would probably have approved some HOT RODDING. One of the Patent Numbers on the firewall plate is for an OHV ROCKER ARM set up! In 1939, Henry commissioned Arkus Duntov, in England, to design & produce the ARDUN OHV set up, for MORE power, for LARGE Ford Trucks! They're a HEMI set up & became VERY popular, in DRAG RACING! The name "ARDUN" was part of his first & last name. An ORIGINAL ARDUN set up will sell for MEGA BUCKS!!! Later, Duntov worked for Chevrolets' High Performance Division. Remember his "DUNTOV" cams???
