Any body out there who knows how to get the spring keepers out to take a u-joint apart.

I use a dremel tool cutoff wheel to cut the keeper in half. the new kit comes with new keepers.

You have to release the tension from the spring. Mount the U-joint securely in a vice and place a chisel over the center of the spring clip and give it a solid rap with a hammer. The spring clip should relax a bit, allowing you to prise it out with a sharp screwdriver or pull it out with pliers.

Thanks. I was trying to save the keepers, but that is a good idea

I made new keepers from the wire of a coat hangar. The u-joint with my homemade keepers is in my Victoria and that joint has been to 70 MPH once.

I use a sharp scribe and work it in between the clip and the cup grove.
