35 Ford Bread truck
 

Anyone interested in a 35 Ford 1 1/2 ton bread truck. This is the first one that I've ever seen.

Attn: GB SISSON: Says he might trade for a Toyota Land Cruiser. Maybe you piece the one back together that you are going to mate with the jail bar front end and trade him straight across? You could certainly pick up a lot of sheet goods in it and sleep in it at swap meets as well. Might cost a bit to get it across on the ferry though. Probably too long and maybe too tall as well for the cheapest rate. :cool:

I actually have an FJ 40 landcruiser... Huge project though (the toyota)... Ferry is no big deal. It's about 260.00 with my equipment trailer and F350. It is a REALLY cool vehicle and Spokane/Idaho territory is pretty much a desert. I have bought So many big trucks with mechanical brakes. If the engine is good, you can take a run into town right off the bat. Juice brakes, sitting 30 years.... not so much. Hmmmm.

GARY. That truck is a JEWEL! It looks like the bed is metal skinned over a wood frame. Right up your alley to make it right. The backstory is how it got to ID from NY and what its been doing since it came West. Just what you need-another project! Les

GB, I'm sure you still have the contact info for a Russian trucker who would deliver it for you unless of course you decide on a road trip to Idaho.

I bought a nice 5 acre piece of woods alongside my 5 back in '06 when you 'couldn't lose in real estate'. I doubt it has come back to what I paid for it and now it looks like a combination hazardous waste site and a hillbilly wrecking yard. 3 boats, lots of 'valuable' truck axles, 5 parts trucks, 2 tractors, various box trailers , my sawmill on a 24' trailer with no title, my AA doodlebug in a tuff shed, stacks of really good truck tires, It ain't a pretty sight. I do get quite a bit done on the good vehicles up on the original 5, but I no longer stay out there in the cold shed working for 3 hours after work ends. Such a sad story.... It needs to go to some younger guy who will love it, but for campers they seem to like eurotrash.... and more than wrenching on vehicles, they like their phones.

I did a little google search on this as the bakery was located in Western NY, near where I am. I found advertisements in the Olean Herald for them from 1936 (when this truck was new) and 1950, along with an advertising sign for what seems to be their signature product, Bamby Bread. The barnfinds author seemed to find similar information. Apparently Rhodes Bakery no longer exists. Couldn't find anything about when they closed. Olean is located in an area that has heavy winter snowfalls and where lots of road salt is used, so it is surprising that this truck seems to have survived so well. Maybe it spent more time in Idaho than on the road in Olean.

It should go back to NY! Researching history is really fun. Back in 2001 I bought a very original and dry 29 AA stakebed. When sanding the doors I uncovered 'Puccinelli Grocery' Elko Nevada. Phone 313W'. I found a 1929 phone book for Elko, and a listing for Puccinelli Grocery. This bread truck should be in a museum in that part of NY. I finally looked at the thumbnails and that interior is stunning. The whole thing is. My nice original tonner panel sits in a shed and gets started once or twice a year. I don't need another enclosed big ford. I don't, I don't, I don't......

They really should purchase it. There must be some antique vehicle group or some way to finance it. I did the same thing with Elko Nevada... They didn't show interest in their grocery store's original vegetable hauler... What a shame. It went to a couple of guys that own a construction company in British Columbia. They have a big metal building to keep it dry.... But it has no history there. Such as it is.

If you like the custom built bread truck you will love this Warner Bros. Sound Truck custom build for Warner. There were 3 built and one of them has been restored and one of the remaining two lies in pieces on the west coast somewhere. Enjoy!!
