Jelly Wilhelm

This is not directly related to Ford flatheads, but learned today that Warren Wayne “Jelly” Wilhelm died last summer. Jelly was a long time performance race car builder in the Wichita area. He help me with research and let my use his shop when I modified my V8 QC to 9 inch axles. He was a long time friend of Jerry Livingston (flathead engine builder) and Bob "Whitey" McDonald (flathead dragster builder/drive) among many others. One close friend was Bill "Speedy" Smith of Speedway fame. They spoke on the phone almost daily when I was around Jelly.

"It was also during this time (1970s) that Jelly started building items for “Speedy Bill” Smith’s Speedway Motors, a mail order speed shop in Lincoln, Nebraska. At the height of his long association with Speedway Motors, Jelly was building 28 different parts for street rods and race cars that were offered for sale in the Speedway Motors catalog. He was still building 10 different parts, that could be purchased through that catalog, when he passed away."
