Turn signal beeper or other solutions
 

Increasingly with age, I sometimes forget to turn the turn signal off again. Sometimes this creates dangerous situations.:eek:
How have you solved this? I have the turn signal kit (6V). In the catalog there is a turn signal beeper. How should it be connected and installed?
Maybe there are other solutions?

Hallo Nachbar,


you usually have a turn signal lamp in your turn signal switch. From there you can get -6V and wire that to the signal beeper. That way the beeper sounds every time any of the turn signals is on.

EDIT: Only saw that picture after my post. Is it 1 lamp or 3 independent lamps?

I understand, the lights are hard to see at times. The 'beepers' I'm aware of are plug-n-play, they just replace the flasher.

I install the unit so the stalk is in line with a steering wheel spoke. If I can see the stalk after a turn I know I've left the light on once again.

I have the same forgetfulness problem.

I don't like an electronic beeper in this car. So I soldered a small clapper to an old relay on its anchor. This relay gets its impulse directly from the flasher relay. It sticks to the firewall sheet with a magnet. At the blinking signal, there is an eager and clearly audible knock against it.

My hearing is such that I cannot hear a beeper. The lights that come on on the unit when the flasher is on did not show up very well in my unit, the same one you have. So I wired the indicator lights on the unit to the flasher relay and now they are bright. The only problem is that the light in the center is on all the time but a bit of black electrical tape solved that problem.

If your flasher is a 3 terminal type, connect the beeper to the P terminal on the flasher, other wire to ground. May have to reverse the wires for it to beep.

IMO, when a driver has a beeper on the turn signals, it sounds like the car is going to back-up.

Super cheap and loud buzzers. If too loud put a piece of tape over the sound hole. Two leads that can be attached to the two main flasher relay terminals…. Give the extras to other Model A owners you see with a constant turn signal flash going down the road…. :)

I picked up two small led bulbs from Radio Shack, one green for starboard and one red for port. Right and left for you landlubbers.

I ran a couple of small gauge wires that are tied into the turn signal circuits up to the inside of the left front corner of the roof. Tucked up and out of the way but easy to spot when they are activated. My signals have a beeper but my hearing isn't as good as it used to be so the indicator lights have been very handy.

Since I don't drive looking down the steering column for the dimmest indicator lights in the world, I wired a cheap Radio Shack beeper to the turn signal. It's invisible and functional.

I drilled a hole thru one of the dash rail screws and installed a green 3mm LED. Hard to ignore that flashing green light...

Use a beeper of any kind that will work on 6 Volt. Lots of them on amazon or ebay for a couple bucks. Wire it ACROSS the normally closed flasher contacts. Make sure the polarity is correct.

Do as Herb said. Red wire on mine is ground and black to "P" terminal. Wires are very thin. The beeping noise is high pitched and slightly annoying, but I find it better to be safe and slightly annoyed than dead and calm.
