I believe Ford went with the 1243 order because he though it would work better with the siamesed intake ports and manifold. 1 & 2 share a port and manifold branch, and likewise 3 & 4. This way, the fuel charge flow has to change directions only twice per crank revolution. With a 1342 (and if the porting and manifolding were unchanged) it has to change directions 4 times per crank revolution. |
