In assembling my 49 f1 project I can't find a source for the tar paper seal that they use between headlight and fender and numerous other places. Will regular tar paper do, or give the same results? The original seems thicker and is pretty stickey. Seems to have a lot more tar and is thicker. any sources? Thanks Mike

Dunno. I use roofing cement and cover with aluminum foil. Jack E/NJ

Get a roll of air conditioning asphalt tape that is used to wrap the suction valve on the evaporator. It is the closest that I have found as a substitute.

Tar paper was always available in 15 lb, 30 lb, 90 lb etc. 90 being the thickest. On a hot summer day 90 should conform to just about anything. Should make excellent engine gaskets as well. Sometimes a cereal box gasket is just a bit too thin......

The webbing between sheet metal is called "anti-squeak" and is sold by all the usual players, Dennis C., MACs, C&G...

The headlight bucket gasket to the panels is 11A-13044, C&g also has it.

That material is absolutely not tar paper. As Ross correctly reported, it is intended to quiet the sheet metal joints and has a thin canvas-like nature.

Original headlight bucket gaskets were made of either cork or rubber and were never meant to be an 'anti-squeek'.
They were just a gasket to prevent water and debris thrown up by the tires from seeping thru to the outside of the fenders.
If you ever saw a car that did not have the gaskets you could tell by the trail of water and residue under the headlights.
Anything with tar in it is most likely aftermarket or homemade.
