Intake Valve Oil Seals

Did original flatheads have oil seals at the intake valve guides. The 59AB that I just took apart does not have them

I took a part a C8BA and a C0BA and neither had them even though I think they were supposed to. And the C0BA had been rebuilt.

It's time to do your homework. The 59 and earler blckd had split guides. Which leaked like a sive. The 8ba has a solid guide an 11/32 stem withha aseal around the guide. All this was state of the art in the early 50s. Today we use solid guides in all our blocks abd sometimes kurrell the guides or install bronze incerts. Now that sealents are available a thin coating around the guideis all that necessary to seal it. OR, you can use the ols rubber seal. In any case the guides will seal themselves as everine knows wen they try to remove them

So Ron, what you are saying is that the 8BA series of blocks don't need the rubber seal. Correct? I was looking at a parts diagram and I thought I saw that they were fitted to these blocks so I'll be glad for your confirmation. Thanks.

I use a small amount of any silicone sealant around the guide befoer you push it in. Now if you want the next guy that removes the exhaust guides to thank you, use some never seize on those guides. it will come out much easier. haven't used tha rubber "O" ring in any of my builds. If that RTV stuff waz available back in the day, Ford wouldn't either. most modern engine use very few gaskets, just a sealant
