Interesting! But no Idea!

Re: Hoof head Wondering if it was named for the shape of the combustion chamber?

Re: Hoof head It does have a heart shaped combustion chamber like most other higher compression heads . It appears to be cast iron . the important thing is compression ratio

Re: Hoof head Nobody has seen the underside of a cow's hoof before?

Re: Hoof head The hoof print from a race horse is good for a speedster.
For a truck, a draft horse shape works better at low revs. |
Re: Hoof head In this case it would be an Oxen, for really slow low torque. :)
|
Re: Hoof head The ribs in the combustion chamber appear to be an attempt at causing a lot of swirl in the fuel mixture + an increase in compression ratio, but at the expense flow and flame front. My guess is that the Hoof Head was not successful in the market place.

Re: Hoof head According to the Mail Truck section of the Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards all mail trucks came with a Hoof governor that fit between the carburetor and intake manifold. Probably the very same company that made the head.

Re: Hoof head I have one exactly like that. Nice head with a high compression but is extremely heavy. Probably a third heavier than a stock head. Until now, mine is the only one I have ever seen.
