Inquiring about transporting Model A
 

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have gifted my Daughter my '30 Model A.

I want to have it transported in an enclosed trailer. Can anyone recommend a reputable, bonded company that can transport from Keremeos, BC to St. Albert, AB (near Edmonton).

Appreciate sending name and contact info to me so that my daughter can arrange immediately. Want to have it moved before the weather turns.

Post the shipment here for free and only accept bids from individuals that you like the sound of from their description and feedback.

It has worked for me.

U Ship brokering fees
 

U Ship has become a broker board

Transport brokers often bid on loads

You do not get to have direct contact with a potential
hauler unless you accept their bid

Then - U Ship takes a cut of the hauling price,
the hauler pays U Ship out of the bid price

The hauler is left with as little as 50% after
these fees if the successful bid was made by a broker

Your assessment, Jim, of uShip fees is accurate. They charge about 15% or so fees for car shipping and at the end of the day, one way or another, the Shipper pays that. If you could bypass uShip and deal with the driver directly, you could save some money (or the driver could earn more, or both). But uShip knows this and they block all direct contact with the driver, until it is booked, that would allow you to bypass their fees. (I was not aware of the added broker fees because I did not use a broker.) As a transporter, I can see how you feel like they really have their hands deep in your pockets. They do. :mad:

The last time I used uShip, it was not all brokers that were offering transport. There were some individual drivers on there, which is what I used. I rejected all bids from brokers. If it is only brokers now, then I would not use it. I insisted on dealing with the guy who drove the truck that had my car, and it worked out well.

I don't know of any other way to match up individual shippers with independent transport drivers to move their car, especially in Canada (which is what the guy asked for). If you or any other Ford Barn guys do, please share with us. This question comes up a few times a year. We could all benefit.

Perhaps we can create a "recommended transporters" list of individual drivers that we have actually used to transport one of our old cars, guys like trulyvintage Jim, that others can search through and contact when they need to move a vehicle. truelyvintage can't move them all; he's only one guy! :D

We list Model A suppliers. Why not Model A transporters?

Jim,

The trend with U Ship is for brokers to use it as a resource.
That lowers the end cost to the actual haulers.
Indirectly - that leads to the lowest quality hauler.

I do just fine - I have hauled several cars for members here.


Glenn,

Brokers exist to make promises on behalf of unknown
third part providers.

There are so many auto transport brokers because
even if you get just (1) booking a day,
that is perhaps a couple hundred bucks ....

Hello......I just purchased a 1928 Model A pickup, and need transport from Albuquerque NM, to Missoula MT. I hooked up with Uship and the best I could do was $2000 for enclosed trailer, and $1500 for open trailer. I'm on a pretty tight budget, and would like to do better, if that's possible......

Any help here?.....thank you.

WELL, FOR STARTERS.......

if you have time, the price goes down. you can also state what you are willing to pay and the transporters can choose you if they wish. but, you must be realistic.

I ran a search on google for "auto transport companies albuquerque nm to missoula mt", and came up with some transport companies to check into..........I'll be back, to mingle with you guys later.......thank you.

Be sure to search here and on HAMB for the name of the shipper you choose to get comments on their past performance.

Welcome to the forum!

$2000.00 for the quality of a Uship transporter (or lack there of) is very high! My prices are on the higher end of the spectrum because of the Quality personalized single car service I provide & that is right at what I would charge for Enclosed. I am not available to help you though as April is booked almost completely already in the eastern half of the country.

Old guy,
I was referring to uship. Give them a window of say 30 days and the price is much cheaper then a week.
also, you can quote what you want to pay and they can counter. Dont be afraid of uship.

I have had good success. yes there are nominal fees. Do you list on ebay and not pay fees? I have also done well with selling on ebay......

Thanks ronn......I've been doing some checking around. I'll check out Uship again and try to give a top price. (I didn't see that before, and will look for it) I'll also give a 30 day window, and see what comes up.

The original poster was asking for safe transport within Canada. Most US transporters do not operate in Canada.

Here are two Canadian company I recommend. Both are great, but not cheap. But, why be cheap when it comes to transporting something that is important to you??

I transport a lot of cars and my clients transport a lot of cars. Within the US, use the big guys like Reliable, InterCity Lines, Passport, etc. They got the right rigs and have tracking for all of their trucks. They will insure your car and provide proof of insurance. If you do use a smaller company or individual, make sure you see PROOF that they have insurance. Not just insurance for their truck and trailer, but insurance for YOUR car as well.

You've spent a lot for your car, don't be cheap on transport.

I used a broker called Amerifreight. They require their carriers to have certain levels of insurance, and they have a rating system. I was very happy with them bringing a car from Ohio to Oregon. Their price was less than Uship. Picked up in time, good communication and delivered early. I have also used Uship in the past with good results
