1914 Model T Gas Tank Shutoff Valve

I have lived with the brass, factory original shutoff valve that came with the car since I purchased it in 2006. It doesn't drip but it is always moist. I dismantled it a few years back and cleaned it and lapped the seats but it didn't help much. Now that the garage has a new, permanent scent, I want to change this valve to a more modern reliable design. Can anyone recommend a new shutoff valve that has been proven to be very reliable? Where can it be purchased? Thanks for your help, Ed

Most tractor supply houses can provide a glass bowl type sediment bulb with a fuel shut-off and 1/2" pipe thread.

Would a glass bowl be safe underneath the car and close to the road? The original style shut off is being reproduced as new.

Nothing is safe including the fact you are sitting over the gas tank or using copper tube that use farrow type connections that can fracture and burst.

I have run one and am sure others have too. It is pretty protected up there.

Thank you for your answers. I like the idea of getting the original style valve if it has been updated with a modern soft seat. Does Langs have these valves? Ed

Oh that dreaded word "modern" again. You may use a ball valve, but there is no reason
for this valve anyhow most have a shut off valve at the carburetor. But if you insist, I
think you should re-lap again. Fine valve grinding compound down to tooth paste..then
a pressure test with shop air on the bench.

There are other places that could show dampness. The thread into the tank, sediment bowl thread or even where the fitting (Bung) is riveted and soldered to the tank.
