1940 front tack under dash How does the rubber tack attach under the dash? About to attach the front wind lace under the dash. Have the dash loose to get it behind it but how exactly does the tack go..any pics would be great

There is no rubber under the 40 dash. However, at the top of the dash there was a piece of the old style cloth electrical tape folded over the top edge of the dash to prevent squeaking of metal on metal. Then there is there is a piece of specially stitched welting that fits between the top of the dash and is held in place by the bottom edge of the front windshield garnish molding. I believe the correct color of the welting was tan.

Re: 1940 front tack under dash The windlace from the top of dash that goes down to the floor is what I am referring to. I'm not sure if the dash has to be removed a little to glue it. But isnt there a rubber tack that goes from underneath dash to the floor to staple windlace to?

I tend to glue mine these days. The cowl kick panel retainer goes over the lower part of the windlace. I would strongly suggest you remove the dash. I suppose you could "cheat" the windlace in with the dash installed but it won't be a first rate job. |
Re: 1940 front tack under dash Thanks "Kube". I didn't realize there really was a maroon and a tan. For some reason, I asked Lebaron-Bonney to make mine a maroon color as the first one they sent me was tan back in 1988. Pure luck. I learned something new. Thanks.

Will these photos and instructions help? Last photo shows wind lace as it's tucked between end of dash and A pillar. Should be installed before the dash but, perhaps it would be possible to loosen the dash bolts and nuts and screws enough to move the dash slightly and carefully slip it in. Best to remove dash so you have space to work for a clean installation. Steering wheel is 50 Ford Crestliner from Limeworks - not DeLuxe 40 Ford. Ash trays are early production "push in and slide upward" style. Chrome strips above and below ashtrays are home made (steel) , then plated.
