rear spring

The main leaf in my rear spring is broke. It"s for a coup which has 8 leaves. I have a spare spring with 10 leaves, do I switch the bottom main leaf or do I take two leaves out of the spare spring if so which two? or can I put the ten leaf spring in the coup and have a stiffer ride?

Re: rear spring

It is my understanding that the springs were sold as a set, so that the main springs were not interchangeable. However, the better solution, without buying a new complete spring, in my opinion, would be to use the main spring from the 10 leaf spring to replace the broken main spring in the 8 leaf spring. The 10 leaf spring in your coupe would be far to stiff and raise the car up in the back which would throw the alignment in the front off. I also think there is no correct leaves to remove from the 10 leaf spring.

Be careful when putting the spring back on the car. There is a lot of stored up energy when mounted.
