Model T hubs
 

I am wanting to swap a Model T front wheel hub onto a wheel that currently has the Model T rear hub and brake drum. I assume the hubs will come apart, but how? Are these pressed together? If so, how can I separate the hub to put the wheel back together? I appreciate any help. Thank you.

I sent you a link to a current posting at the Model T Ford Club of America about the spoke press. (If you don't see it check you spam folder)There should be some links in it also about hub replacement. The hubs don't just slide out, the spokes need to be pushed out at the center to release it. Then need to be pressed back together. Also, you will need the 6 new hub bolts and nuts. The bolts are peened after assembly so very few will survive the removal of the nuts.

You only need spoke press if you are changing spokes.


To change a wheel from rear to front you only need to change the hub. Take out the bolts. Put the wheel on a 5 gallon bucket with the hubcap part of the hub facing up. Use a rawhide or dead blow plastic mallet to drive the hub into the bucket. A block of wood is a good idea to protect the hubcap threads.


To install the desired hub flip the wheel over on the bucket and use the mallet again to install the hub. Put the new bolts in. Peen the bolts so they cannot loosen.

If you move every second spoke with a wooden mallet, then all the other spokes, you can walk the hubs out easier. Or so i have done.

I've changed many hubs. It never required removing any spokes.

Taper appear to be canadian production, and you don't need a press.
They tap out with a wooden mallet, and offer lots of minor "adjustment" with sandpaper so they can be fitter super sung, even when worn.
