Remove mold
 

I have a 1928 Phaeton. This summer while the top was folded down the cloth got moldy. Any one know how to clean the mold without hurting the fabric. It is the cloth under the top. It is dark brown or black. Thanks Charlie

The only sure fire method I know is bleach. I would dilute it quite a bit and test a small inconspicuous spot. DO NOT USE FULL STRENGTH! Rinse thoroughly and let it air dry. Lots of sunshine will help. Mold is a living organism, sun may kill it but you need to clean it as well. There may be modern chemicals that will work better, but be sure to test a small spot first. I agree with slam. Problem is, as you dilute the bleach and make it safer, the weaker it is in killing mold.


there may be bathroom cleaners that are gentler on your top, but that combat mold.


simple green comes to mind.

Worked well for me.

Convertible tops should never be stored with the top down, mainly because the material can shrink and then tear when the top is clamped in place.

You can kill mold without bleach or chemicals. Use ozone. If you find an old ozone generator, you're all set. If not, you can build a Tesla coil and run it with the car in an enclosed area (drain the gas tank!).

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then stick with chemicals so you don't kill yourself.
