air cleaner

Would any know of an after market air clean to fit the 97 carb that will not restrict the air flow, or,
I would like on like an original 33 that I could pit a modern paper element inside.
Thanks Lawrie

Re: air cleaner

Here's the K & N Air Filter web site page for searching filter shapes and sizes .... http://www.knfilters.com/search/universal.aspx ....

Use this and other forums "search" feature to find threads discussing and detailing the conversion of stock oil air cleaners to concealed paper filters, and the pro/con debate re same.

Obviously there are retro units on auto/hot rod retail shelves if you're so inclined.

This is what I use on my model A 97. The base is a speedway Louvered air cleaner base with a hose clamp to hold it on. I do not like using a set screw into the carb. The top is from another Speedway air cleaner. K&N from chart, don't remember number. So I used 2 cheap air cleaners to make one.

Re: air cleaner

Lawrie, PeterC's air cleaner is very well done, and keeps the theme of the original '35 (actually the same for '34-'36) air cleaner to a "T"... IMO.
I also know of two other FB members who have come up with some very unique and creative modifications, for this same year stock air cleaner, allowing it to accept a modern replaceable air filter, and if someone didn't know otherwise, would think they look, and are, 100% original.

I have installed a K&N filter in my original 1933 breather. Works great and keeps it looking original. Sorry I forgot the Part# of the filter

For my right hand drive (UK) 1932 Model B I fabricated an air filter to replicate the original aftermarket version that was available for left hand drive cars. I added the drip tray which is useful for catching any petrol which drips from the carburettor. The filter housing contains wire mesh. It's more ornament than function !
