hot wiring (grounding) advice,
 

I am having trouble starting my flathead, it was just put in a 34 roadster that I am trying to piece together. the engine has been sitting since around 1990, and it was stuck, after much soaking I was able to get it free and now it spins like it should, compression is weak, but I hope that will come around once it runs a little. I do not have spark at the plugs. I get confused with the strange wiring on the 6 volt systems.
I HAVE THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE GOING TO GROUND AT THE TRANSMISSION.

the NEGATIVE cable going to the starter through the starter button.

Then I have a wire run from the positive battery terminal through a kill switch to the positive side of the coil.

The wire from the negative side of the coil goes to the condenser and to the points.

Should their be any ground connection from the engine to frame? OR WOULD THAT BE A MISTAKE WITH THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE GOING TO THE TRANSMISSION?

Run a ground strap from the engine to the frame.

It is wired all wrong on the coil side. Positive ground stays positive ground all the way through the system. The negative terminal of the battery connects to the coil (-) and the other terminal (+) of the coil connects to the distributor.

If it was me, I would hotwire it like the attached diagram, but you could replace the Ing switch with a toggle switch and forget the connection to the "I" terminal on the starter solenoid (the one that by-passes the resistor while the starter is turning over).

You can start it with a hot wire but don' run more than a few minutes
without a resistor in the hot wire. G.M.

In another thread there is a discussion about the gage of the wires for the 6 volt system. What should be the gages of the wires 34hardhead is talking about. Are they all "0"?
