Trans detent problem Just for info, but I ran across this today. The trans would shift ok sometimes and sometimes get stuck between second and third. No movement. Other times it was just hard to shift. We found that someone used a wrong detent on one side and it would not allow enough room for the spring to compress and let the detents slid out of the notch. The spring would bottom out and I guess the "Guy" had to pound the shaft in while pushing the detent as far as he could. The detent bullet that was the problem had a cone shaped end with a flat end instead of the dome shape. The hole for the spring was not as deep and the other bullet. All ok now.

Re: Trans detent problem The tower is simple to work on and Tom Endy's article on it makes it easy. The only tedious part is welding up the shift forks and getting them back to spec. You know it's a bad thing when you hear "Pound the shaft in" .
