Matching photos, I think..... 2 Attachment(s)
I found the first one of these on some old New Deal photographs. The other just popped up on an 'old car group' Facebook site. They must have been taken at the same time--- 1) broken window 2) belt on running board 3) missing rear view mirror 4) undersized wheels............

Re: Matching photos, I think..... Same little girl in the front seat too

Re: Matching photos, I think..... Anyone else notice that it is a Taxi Cab fordor sedan. Probably purchased much used after taxi life finished.

Re: Matching photos, I think..... Tudor, yup I think you hit right on the nose.

Re: Matching photos, I think..... Missing the radiator apron

Re: Matching photos, I think..... The man in the first photo is wearing a cap and the man in the second photo is wearing a western hat. Looks like the same man.

Re: Matching photos, I think..... How can we tell it's a Taxi Cab fordor sedan?
|
Re: Matching photos, I think..... Definately the same car. Apart from the things already mentioned, the same scratch on the side of the fuel tank and mark on the door are present in both photos.
|
Re: Matching photos, I think..... Yup the same women in the front seat.
First pic has a box in the rear seat, second has a little boy sitting in the same position. I dont think the man is the same guy. |

The taxi lacks the "A" Pillar protruding from the cowl, but the sedan in the vinatage photo has the classic 1928-29 "A" Pillar.

Re: Matching photos, I think..... Yes it is the same car in both pics.
The Taxi was the only Fordor body to have the so called "coupe pillar". As well as no visor and the unique roof overhang and the larger rear windows. Not visible in these pics but another exterior sign would be the third hinge on the rear door. -Tim |
Re: Matching photos, I think..... The Western hat was in the box :-))

Re: Matching photos, I think..... Looking at these photos I wish they could talk to us. The cars history, the people, there hopes and dreams. My guess as to whats in the box is a pie or "box luncheon"
Sounds sentimental, but the pictures really do hearken back to A DIFFERENT TIME in our history. Gerry Allen, Birch Bay Wa |

Gerry Allen - talking about a 'different time' in our past, this pic I found perhaps shows that better than any I've seen..... Thanks all for the comments above.

Re: Matching photos, I think..... If the third hinge is at the belt line you can see it on the second pic, I have tried but cant tell if the guy in the first pic has cuffs on his trousers like the guy in the second pic. I think the pic was taken at the same time but different men. That looks like a well worn/loved western style hat, I doubt he would've changed it.

Re: Matching photos, I think..... Here are the captions from the Library of Congress entry for the pictures.
"Mr. Bill Stagg putting container of food which was left from dinner at the community sing back into the car. Pie Town, New Mexico" June 1940 and "Eating dinner at the all day community sing, Pie Town, New Mexico" -Tim |

I'm confused - are you saying the taxi does not have the protruding A pillar? For whatever reason (camera angle?), it doesn't show in the pic you posted. But another view of the same car shows it has the curved "coupe" pillar, as does the car in the OP pic. |
