Oil pump shield modification questions 1 Attachment(s)
I was going through my box of model a oil pumps to choose which one I was going to rebuild. And found one that someone previously had modified the outer pump baffle/shield. Is this something anyone here has seen done before. If so are there any benefits to performing this modification or it is it hurting the function. Ben

Re: Oil pump shield modification questions It hurts function, raises the minimum oil level that can be pumped

Re: Oil pump shield modification questions Also more apt to 'aerate'. The shield is designed to force the pump to pick up oil from very low in the pan.

Re: Oil pump shield modification questions Perhaps modified due to reoccurring sludge in the bottom of the oil pan? Poor maintenance or crappy oil back in the day..

Re: Oil pump shield modification questions Thanks for the replies guys. That is what my thoughts were as well but thought I would ask since the motor was running when disassembled.
