Rumbleseat Floor Mat

Just got a new rumbleseat floor mat and fasteners for my newly assembled 31 Roadster. Just wondering about the necessity for the studs that hold the floor mat in place. My repro floor pan doesn't have the holes for the studs so I will have to drill them. The locations for the rear ones are easy to mark and drill but it appears that the front ones go up under the front seat riser and may be almost impossible to mark let alone drill. Are the fasteners really necessary? The mat seems to lay nicely in place as is. Maybe just put the back ones in? Or just leave them out altogether. Do the studs tend to damage the rubber mat over time? Any opinions appreciated.

Re: Rumbleseat Floor Mat

My grandfather bought his (now my) Sport Coupe in 1965. It did not have any studs in the floor pan. He bought a new Sears floor mat for the rumble seat, which is still there today lying as flat as it ever did. I don’t think studs are necessary.
