I'll let everyone know if I'm sued for using the FB logo....c'mon.....
Now the real issue is the sales tax guys showing up...they will nail you.
I just spoke to a buddy who is at Carlisle and the revenuers are there....

A lot of people who sell at swap meets are restorers with excess parts. I have never understood why the sales tax people swoop down on Hershey and Carlisle and don't nail the house wives who sell crafts and excess household items at yard and garage sales at their homes. Of course there is a move to collect a sales tax on internet sales. Psst, hey buddy can I interest you in a 32 grille?

Carlisle, two years ago, my buddy was asked to go down to the PA sales tax tent, show his Transient Vendor License and show proof he paid his sales tax for the past half year. Luckily for him he had his vender license and a copy of his cancelled check with him. Before that we didn't even know there was such a tax booth. I was there, it did happen, seldom does but it can happen to you too. I know of people that have ten and fifteen spots and have for many years, hardly pay any tax and have never been questioned. The luck or un-luck of the draw. JimOH

tax guys keep this up.....that will end these meets........
they do not understand nor probably don't care the amount of side money the communities make (hotels, restaurants, bars etc.) from these events......
let's kill the economy even more, shall we!

The tax predators have been involved in many of the show/flea markets I attend for the last few years. You might enjoy the following, understanding that this happens more than we know.
I live very close to a, no sales tax, state. Without going into detail, one of the businesses I do business with is in this State. My state tax people see fit, every so often, to go into businesses in the adjacent State to audit the books, looking for customers from our State that have bought items and not paid our State tax. Think what you want, they can't do that!!,etc. Maybe it's a courtesy, I don't know, but I can tell you that getting caught is not pleasant. 'nough said.
Here's the kicker. During a follow-up call to the bookkeeper of one of these audited businesses, the bookkeeper asked the tax person how much they yielded with their audits. The answer: "It cost more to collect than the monies yielded".
The underground economy is the only honest kind of transaction!!

Maybe I'm an idiot, but every year, I add an amount on my New Jersey income tax return for "items purchased without paying sales tax."

PeteVS, We have the same adder to our IC tax, here in Vermont. What I haven't figured out yet is; can I get a tax credit when I'm purchasing something in a State with a higher sales tax!
The secret to this flea market ripoff; bring cash, do business at dusk and know your friends. This forum is a good place to do the latter. Enjoy Hershey guys, I'm going to put this to bed.

I have not been to a bigger show in years for some common sense reasons. I spend a lot of money going to the show. I'm gone from home, family, and business for days. Local business jack up the price on items near the show. Local tax issues make me feel like a criminal when I buy something. Most of the items for sale or junk tools and items not even related to cars. I can set at home and search for what I need on one of the various internet sites that offer parts for sale with no sales tax. I only pay shipping that I would not pay if I attended the show. Shipping is cheaper than diesel fuel, rooms, and anything you would try to eat at a car show. Am I just getting to old with a bad attitude?

Here in NZ we have "Goods and Services tax" (gst) which is rates at 15/% on all products sold. If I bring car parts in from the USA or anything from any where for a matter of fact I'm obliged to pay this, but when you bring less than $300 in a at at time (or something around that figure) they don't bother to collect because it is too uneconomical. I've been bringing stuff in for years in small lots for my car and it's never been a problem.

Well.... that might change here soon. With internet sales booming, business' here are starting to "bleat" to our govt about "loosing out".........etc, etc. People have figured out that they "charge like wounded bulls" so they buy online overseas. If the mark up wasn't so great here people wouldn't need to do this. For example I can get a pair of good running shoes form the UK for some $130 cheaper than for the same ones here in the shops here ( and the shippings free). The govt will need to figure out how they are going to collect this on small sales so they don't get "stung" themselves , if they are going to appease the "bleaters". Long may the present regime continue here.
