Radio question

City: City Point
State: Wisconsin

I have a question about a radio. I am looking for a FACTORY AM RADIO for a 1948-50 Ford pickup. I was told that a radio from a 1951-52 Ford pick up is the same. Is this true? If not, what does the 1948-50 Ford radio look like? Is there a seperate face plate that covers up the radio dial once it is installed in the dash? I would like to see some photos of a 1948-50 Ford radio if possible and the face plate if it has one., Thank u.

Re: Radio question

I have been told 49 Mercury radio fits. I'm sure 49-50 ford cars will NOT work.

Re: Radio question

I have a NOS kit in original Ford box that fits 1948 trucks. It is a pressed steel plate painted Tacoma cream that mounts to the lower edge of the dash. It uses a 1946/8 Ford or Mercury car radio. 1949/50 trucks used a different mounting plate located in the rectangular opening above the speaker. I am guessing the radio was the regular 1949 car unit. The mounting plate is needed to adapt it to the hole.

Here's some pics of the original radio for Ford Commercial vehicles dated 1948.

I have a early 50's dealer notebook used by the sales department. Hope this helps. I believe the radio is same as a 49 Mercury, but the face is unique to the pickup( or commercial) trucks only.

Hope this helps.....

Re: Radio question

My Trico data shows 1948-50 pickup used a CSM-1-2. It also shows the 1951-52 pickup used a CHM-11-10. The Trico data does not explain the differences and the wipers differ in part number from passenger wipers of same era. Bear in mind the difference can be small.
