Where are some good eating spots around Hershey besides the usual chain restaurants. Miles of walking works up a good appetite!

I have family in the Hershey area and travel there regularly. Here are two that I recommend that are near Hershey at the 83 / 283 interchange:

If you really like to eat there is a huge smorgasbord in East Earl, PA called Shady Maple Smorgasbord and they have everything imaginable on their buffet and it is all really tasty. It's several miles from Hershey but worth the drive.

Oh yeah, Shady Maple is worth the drive. I go there at least a couple of times every Hershey. It is big and the food is very good.

I stayed in an AirBNB last year an the host suggested Poppi Al's. Excellent breakfast from my experience, but she stated all the meals were good.

Firstly, those are not crab cakes. They are more like filler cakes and not worth the money. There is Iron Hill Brewery in Hershey. I have not been to that location but have been to the original in DE and its pretty good. There is also a place called Hershey Biergarten that is supposed to be good, again havent been there. If you want to travel for half hour I would head to Lancaster as opposed to Harrisburg. Much smaller and less congested. Easy to get to from Hershey. There are some good rests. there. If you like GOOD home made Italian at a reasonable price Lombardo's is the place to go.

Yes go to Shady Maple. You won't go away hungry. More like feeling sick from eating too much of their delicious food. Go on their website. Different menu every day. Closed Sundays.
They're about an hour east of Hershey.

We like Arooga's Grille House and Sports Bar. It is just off of W Chocolate Ave as you head down the hill from the swap meet towards Hershey Park Drive. They have a great happy hour daily and full menu.

Chocolate Avenue has many good places.

Houlihans, the Mill and the Iron Hill Brewery are few that I enjoy....and haven't been thrown out of.

The warwick hotel in hummelstown would be my first suggestion.. sit down dining or burgers and beer at the bar.. just off the square in hummelstown..

otherwise..
1. Official BBQ & Burgers has great BBQ, but is a very very casual location

2. The Manor Restaurant & Lounge just up 39, tried to go last year, but it was very busy

and if your looking for "really nice" fabios restaurant in grantville, pa.. Our club had a dinner there a few years ago during hershey week..

Personally I wouldn't drive all the way to shady maple, unless you were headed back to Philly to fly home.. but.. I live relatively close to shady maple and the allure has waned..

One of our family's many fond food memories of trips to Hershey goes back to the days of the flea market in the grass pasture opposite the airfield. At the rear of the field, the local neighbors' wooden frame garages opened up their doors to the flea market. Enterprising folks sold out of the garages ... including the Kiwanis Club that provided their version of the then new Egg McMuffin and coffee.

They called it the "Egg McKiwanis." Our then grade school aged boys still remember the chilly 6 AM breakfasts and the warm-hearted Kiwanians that served them.

After spending all day in antique auto wonderland, we would head for the Amish country for dinner ... do they even have apple pie in brew pubs?

Last Hershey that my son and I attended had vendors packing up on Friday afternoon because it "looked like rain."

Hershey today sure doesn't have the ambiance of the early days ... like comparing Disney World to the Threshermans Meet in Albert City, Iowa.

Another fine restaurant is The Brownstone Cafe in Middletown,Pa. about 5 miles from Hershey. It used to be a bank. Very good food,nice atmosphere no loud annoying music. We eat breakfast there every weekend.

Hershey Pantry has the best deserts that you will find anywhere. Pies & cakes. It is on East Chocolate Avenue, about one mile east of downtown Hershey, right next door to the Hampton Inn.

Good suggestions,,,, anything but the (ugh) national chain fast food restaurants they get very old very fast. I'd go to the local grocery stores and buy a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter if available first.

Mom and Pop places are always the best. Plus you are helping someone trying to make a living, and not just filling the corporate coffers.
