1939 Honeymoon photos Although it's not Model A related, here are some pictures I saw on Yahoo news this morning. Hope you enjoy them. I like the ice cream picture myself.
"Exactly 75 five years ago, Margaret and Denys Gardiner, two lovebirds on their honeymoon, were having the time of their lives touring the English countryside in their classic convertible. These enchanting and remarkably undamaged photos from August 1939 were thought to be lost, according to the couple’s grandson, Barney Britton, who discovered the photographic time capsule while cleaning out his grandmother’s attic. “The collection of almost 80 color slides was inside a small wooden box, and had been in my grandmother's attic for at least 20 years,” Barney wrote. The photos were taken less than a month before World World II and capture the couple’s young and fancy free attitudes, Britton explains on his website. Take a trip back in time with these picturesque snapshots." http://gma.yahoo.com/photos/enchanti...057-slideshow/ |

Re: 1939 Honeymoon photos I absolutely love color film from the 30-40's. It seems to be richer in color than modern film. It was neat to see English country life.

Re: 1939 Honeymoon photos Just before Hitler unleashed the full horror of WWII on Europe. The great thing about these pix is I'd bet the locations look much the same today as then.

Re: 1939 Honeymoon photos Very Nice. Those pictures remind me of the ones you see on the old stereoscope cards.:)
In picture #4, I wonder how many of those ice cream cones wound up with sprinkles, not put on at the ice cream shop.:D |
Re: 1939 Honeymoon photos Picture #5 where they are picking up the hay that slipped off the stack sure brings back the memories. Our rule was that the person stacking the hay was the one that had to re-stack if some of the load came off.

Re: 1939 Honeymoon photos Quote:
The war was way over there in 1939, so I would think that these young Americans kept their "young and fancy free" attitudes until the attack on Pearl Harbor; Americans were pretty much isolationist up until Dec 7, 1941. Before that, Americans wanted nothing to do with the war. Thanks for posting the great photos. |
