Canadian Built F47 Heater Core
 

Work on restoring our 1950 Ford F47 Pickup Truck is progressing. While adding coolant to the engine for the first time, we discovered a small crack in the temperature sender boss on one of the heads. I believe we successfully addressed the crack with the use of Seal-Lock. While refilling the second time, we then noticed a leak in the heater core. The core has been flushed, resoldered where a crack was found and then pressure tested. This truck sat in Canada without being driven for almost 40 years. My fear is we will just be chasing cracks.


Evidently, we created a new crack during the installation. This F47 did not utilize the same heater unit found with a 1950 F1. I've attached a photograph of the heater. It is similar to that used with a late 40s automobile with the three doors. Before I attempt to pull the core and try to fix the leak, does anyone know if reproduction cores are available? I've done an Internet search and did not come up with a solution. An option would also be to install an inline valve on the heater hose and not allow coolant to flow through the heater core. This truck will only be driven in nice summer weather.


The second question involves a battery clamp. Photograph attached. I have not been able to determine where this clamp secures a battery cable.

As many heaters were dealer installed for the F1s, there were a variety in the types installed. The three door version was fairly common along with a Ford script and the Magic Air. Try these folks for replacement cores: http://ucvintagerad.com

That clamp looks like those used on the cable between the starter and solenoid for the I6s..

The battery clamp mounts to the back of trans /block up against fire wall.No cores are available for the 3 door heaters, have a radiator shop resolder.

You might try shoeboxcentral.com. I just got a new aluminum heater core for my 49 shoe box but havnt had to e to install it yet, so I'm not too sure if it will work or not.

I have a 1950 F1, a one farm family truck since new. It came from WA state very the Canadian border. I’ve been chasing parts for the heater that came with the truck. Finally found one but now it seems the heater core leaks. I’ll try a pressure test at home. The local shop says it could cost $hundreds to fix!

There is a member on here that deals with heater and can probably fix you up. Be patient for reply's.
