Phaeton Saddle Plug In looking through Henry's Lady, there is a description in the phaeton section that says when the top is up, the saddle for the top mechanism is removed and a plug is inserted to close the hole that the shaft went through. What is the plug made of? When can a set be purchased? THanks.

Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug I had original grommets on my AR to fill the hole.

Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug When I had my '29 phaeton I went to the local hardware and got some plastic plugs that fit. Never could find any original or repop "authentic" plugs. Most of the time I just left the saddles attached.

Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug I've been looking for those rubber plugs also and can't find any. Metro rubber is close to me and next time I drive by their store I'll have to see if they have them or would be willing to make a run of them. I would need a sample (or blueprint) to show them, if they would make a run.

Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug I thought someone posted a message fairly recently stating they found that house heating duct plugs fit well (used when the ducts are cleaned to plug the holes). I may have been dreaming, but I am pretty sure I saw the post within the last 3 or 4 weeks. I a have not tried anything to plug the holes on my phaeton, but it may be worth a try.

Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug This is off my Canadian june 28 AR.
I would dare say, they are original. Topside http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1.../plugfront.jpg Underside http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...d/plugback.jpg Profile http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ugprofile1.jpg |
Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug I have a 1929 Phaeton purchased from the original owner who was very proud that he had never folded the top. In my 56 years of owning I have never folded the top. The body plugs are an almost flat metal plug and both are still in place.

Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug Tom, give me your address, I will post the plug to you.

Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug Thanks to all of you on the saddle shaft plugs you use for your cars. I have many suggestions on how to proceed. A good hardware store should have what it takes. I usually leave the saddle on, but the shaft is nothing special, so a plug will be great. Just need to make certain that I always have the saddles with me in case of rain. Thanks again.:)

When it rains, the top goes up and the saddles aren't used. I'm guessing you meant plugs rather than saddles. |
Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug Safari Bob, and I know Tom has an original AR too.
Could you check where the shaft comes out of your body holes? Mine come out towards the front. Looking at the left side, it looks like this. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1.../shafthole.jpg If others are not in the middle, same as mine, it would be great when Tom gets my sample and gets some made, he could get some with offset holes in them. The body/shaft needs a grommet there not just for appearance, but also for stopping water getting in. If a holed grommet could have the original edge dome profile, it would be a great bit of gear. |
Re: Phaeton Saddle Plug Bob Moore- Try Restoration Specialties & Supply,Inc. Phone No. 814-467- 9282 and ask for Dave Mihalko Jr.. I sent Dave an original rubber plug some time ago to make a mold and make the plugs. His first run of plugs were not domed like the original and he is supposed to have reworked his mold and produced some more plugs. Ron Geer.
