Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

UPS strikes again..., they delivered a package from Joblot containing a master cylinder for our '53 F-100 Panel Truck:D. That's an easy swap, so I may just do that in the morning before everyone else gets here, then they can help me bleed and adjust the brakes...;) before we get started on Mike’s ’41… I hope it stops raining...:(

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

I got up this morning, moved several cars around so I could get the '53 Panel Truck up on the lift to swap out the leaking master cylinder. The good thing is; the rain has stopped, at least for a while. As soon as Mike or any of the guys get here I'll bleed the brakes and the '53 should be good to go...:D:cool:

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

After we bled the brakes on the '53 Panel truck we pulled the drums and backing plates off of the '50 F-1 axle and found an almost new set of brake shoes and assorted parts, including wheel bearings and bearing races...:D Hopefully we'll get them installed on Mike's '41 BC in the not too distant future.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

I've been enjoying driving the '39 LZ :D and yesterday I had to do some house building related work so I drove the LZ over to a stainless steel fabrication shop (need an exhaust hood insert made) and while I was there I asked if they could fabricate the stainless door sill moldings for the Zephyr... The drivers side is missing and the passenger side had been cut so only about two thirds of the original remains. I've not been successful in trying to locate an original set so; if these guys can replicate the originals (they are going to try) I'll be a happy camper...

Also, I plan on sending the running boards up to Huntley Acuff to have them redone. I've seen several '38 LZ's that have taupe colored running boards and I'd like to know if the '39 LZ's had taupe colored running boards as an option, anybody know:confused:

'39 LZ Door Sills

Apparently the ’39 LZ was unique with respect to the “door sills”:(. The Coupe and Convertible Club Coupe are the same body and possibly the Coupe Sedan (TuDor Sedan) has the same “door sills”. I have not been able to locate any originals and, to my knowledge, no one re-pops them:(. I did find a company that makes door sills for just about every car ever produced, they have ’38 & ’40 to ’48 LZ & Continental door sills but no ‘39’s… I may send what’s left of our ’39 LZ door sills (and full measurements) to them to see if they can replicate the originals;). How many other ’39 LZ owners (of the aforementioned body styles) would be interested in new “correct” door sills? Once I find out if this company can make the door sills (and at what cost), I’ll post the information on the LZOC.org web site as well. If there’s enough interest, I’ll have them produce whatever the minimum run would be.:)

What is the name of the company that makes the sills for the 40?

Mark, the company name is "Door Sills", they are in New Jersey. If you PM me I'll give you the contact name and phone number (I don't want to post it without clearing it with them first). Vic

Lunch Hour Computing…

I was thumbing through a couple of parts catalogs looking for parts for both our ’39 Ford and ’39 Zephyr when I noticed pricing discrepancies for the same part between the Ford catalog and the Lincoln catalog. This didn’t come as a surprise however; it was an eye opener to see the difference in the markup from Ford to Lincoln… Thought I’d show you guys so if you haven’t done comparison shopping, you might want to start.

PART FORD# Cost LINCOLN# Cost

Front Wheel
Bearings
Inner B-1201 16.00 1201 21.50
Outer B-1216 16.00 1216 21.50

Front Bearing
Race
Inner B-1202 10.00 1202 17.00
Outer B-1217 8.00 1217 17.00

Oil Filler Cap 78-6766 10.00 6766 25.50

Flex Fuel Line 18-9288-A 10.00 9288 14.75

Total: $70.00 $117.25

Difference $47.25:eek:

Oops, I thought I had the spacing for the columns but they didn't print like that.

Yea Vic:

I had the same problem with spacing the columns on the Shock Spec List.
Had to have my daughter redo it so it would make since (well I think it does any how.)

Vic: Do you Know that, or are you just imagining it? LOL

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Lawson, you do know that I have a vivid imagination...:D;) But I'm not susceptible to flights of fantasy... I can’t wait for the floor pans to arrive so we can get started on yet another phase of the LZ’s restoration…:)

Have fun South of the Border:) Vic

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

While I’m waiting for the new floor pans to arrive from Paul Bradley:D, I think I might pull the left front fender off of the ’39 LZ and start working on removing all the old paint (the car has been repaintet twice in the last 72 years) and fixing the dent…
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...012/002-31.jpg
I already have the trunk lid and fender skirts in primer/sealer:) so I guess now is a good time to start on the rest of the removable parts of the body...

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

I've got family visiting this weekend so nothing will get done where playing with Flatheads is concerned:(. I did order the correct cable to download video from the broadcast video camera to the computer so I might be able to post some video of our "play time" on YouTube... That should be fun...:D:cool: Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Someone at the meet told me they just got some floor pans from Paul. Maybe for a '36. He said that Paul has a kid in college, and now he is getting a little more motivation. Just what I heard.

Paul should be at the EFV8 Meet, maybe you'll run into him:). He was going to ship the '39 LZ floor pans before he left for Hiawassee. Hope I get them this week. Vic
