1939 Truck Windshield frame Painted ??

Were some of the 1939 truck windshield frames painted from the factory?? I see pictures on the web of trucks that have painted windshield frames.

I have a chrome one that has some pitting and need to either re-chrome or paint it. Any suggestions for a chrome shop and what I should expect to pay to have it done?

The basic truck was painted but there was a Deluxe option that would have had a chrome windshield frame. Cost of re-chroming depends on how much work is required to fill in the pitted frame.

I think the majority were painted at the factory. The dealer demonstrator models had chrome frames. Can't locate my Wagner book right now. That would show a lot of new '39 trucks.

I had the windshield in my 1939 Standard, replated about 5 years ago. The shop is located in Richmond Va. I think I paid $225. They are an average shop, that I feel, is very reasonable. They do not like to do much repair work. If you pick out a really good shop, the price will be much higher

Ford Trucks since 1905, by James Wagner. The Ford truck bible, hands down. Maybe out of print but amazon has them. I wore the cover off mine since 1993 or so.

This brings up another thing. The chrome car windshields will fit trucks so some of them have been swapped into trucks.

Dan good luck with you windshield project. On my truck I had the frame powder coated black. The windshield gasket I pre-fit/checked before applying the coating and it was a real pain either way.

Fitting the glass/gasket and installing the assembly into the vehicle is a two and sometimes three person job, you got your work cut out for you buddy:D

Thanks for all the replies about the Windshield Frame being painted or not. I have decide to have it painted the same color as the cab.
Thanks again, Dan
