1928 Phaeton curtain pan hinges.

Does anyone have a good photo or specs for the hinges on the rear curtain pan?

Bick,
I have a 29 phaeton I am restoring and did a lot of research on the curtain trays, as mine was totally missing. There were some changes for the location and the latch through production. I am attaching a picture of an excellent duplicate of the tray hinge. I can measure the hinge on my phaeton if you need it.

Ok, now I have to go out to my early 1929 phaeton and look for the curtain tray. I had no idea such a thing even existed and now want to see if the car I've been driving for about 10 years has one.

Seth,
Ford installed curtain trays in phaetons several months into 1929. My phaeton is a Jan 29 car. They did change the tray door latch from a metal latch to a hole sometime in late 28 or early 29, probably to save money. Ford also added the two "twisties" to keep it closed at the same time.

Hi Bick
I have a September 22 firewall stamp and my 28 has the under-floor pan. I will get to my garage tomorrow and take photos. Do you want anything besides hinges?

Thanks for the replies guys, most appreciated. One of the local Model Aers gave me a ring tonight and suggested I look at a Model T seat lid hinge. Looking at it it wouldn't be hard to adapt when compared to Rusty's hinge photo. Rusty, would you mind posting the dimensions of the hinge for me to compare.

Re: 1928 Phaeton curtain pan hinges.

Bick,
I measured one of the hinges on my 29 phaeton. The hinge width is 1.30". The double hole spacing (both sets) is .750". The length of the part that goes on the door is 1.835" (not critical). The part that fastens to the body crossmember is .68". The distance for the 2 parallel holes in the door screw holes to the centered hole is .960" (again not critical). Note, since the hinges are installed on my car, the measurements may not be exact, but very close.

The critical part is the hole spacing is where the hinge fastens to the crossmember - 3/4" spacing. The mounting holes in the door are not very critical. It seems like you can cut off the one side that mounts to the crossmember to .68" and the model T hinge might fit OK. The model T hinge appears to be very close to the model A hinge. If you need any more measurements, let me know.

Can't beat original!

Bick
Took me awhile to get to the garage. My hinges don’t look like the ones shown by others on this thread. The car was restored around 1955, so th hinges may not be original.

Thanks Roy for the effort, they certainly look like replacements, when compared to the others.
