Carburetor Options 2 Attachment(s)
After putting the following Simmons stuff on my A400, I decided it was time to finish the other manifold and carburetors I've had for 20 years. Now to decided which car deserves it. :)

Re: Carburetor Options Does the simmons up performance? Do duals add top speed and if so how much? Also what do you do about the gavs on duals?
|
Re: Carburetor Options 1.Yes but not much
2.Yes,and power should run 60 reasonably easy. 3. adjust both evenly for best idle. But...if you want the best yield from increasing fuel,go single downdraft carburetor. Stromberg 97/Holley 94 CFM rate damn nears matches the A engine CFM rate.. with a accelerator pump .. |
Re: Carburetor Options I'm running two model B carbs on two of my model A's . A larger carb or dual carbs will add a little top speed . My experience has been that a completely stock model A will run 60 MPH if in good condition and tune . Without increasing compression , no mods will make that much of an increase in power that can really be felt . I run the back carb with the GAV closed . I run the front carb with the GAV opened 1/4 turn after warm up as original . I agree that a down draft carb setup will give more performance . A down draft setup is just too easy to flood. An updraft setup doesn't flood that badly even when or if it floods . Dual updraft carbs can still use the original choke and GAV setup .

Re: Carburetor Options Hey Purdy, how is the stopping at 60MPH?

Re: Carburetor Options My brakes are very good . Good mechanical brakes when properly setup and adjusted work about as good as any drum brakes in my opinion .

Re: Carburetor Options I had used a gps and got 46mph out of mine when I had a bad head gasket. Got that fixed put in pistons and time now with a nurex wrench. At top end I can find a sweet spot of timing about 2 clicks from all the way down and add a little more gav for a a couple miles more. I havent gps'ed again but it feels like mid forties. I have a fordor and im thinking the extra weight may be slowing me down. I have a tillotson carb and a B cam(late production diamond block). Seems to run just fine gets right up to that speed in about 1/8 of a mile. If fordor's are capalble of 60 I may have a lower rear gear. Ive gone through most things on the car. cleaned out fuel strainers replaced all valves during my rebuild. runs great she just isnt too fast on top.

Re: Carburetor Options Had a slant window fordor, it had no problem with 68, stock carb, engine----

Re: Carburetor Options do zeniths have a bigger venturi than tillys? what is the top speed of 4.11 gears?

Re: Carburetor Options Quote:
My Truck on the flat no wind maxed at about 45-50 on a worn motor with compression in the 40s. One of the reasons I changed to a 3.54 and had teh motor rebuilt last winter. |

Now that's cranking. Best I ever got out of the stock head and carb on my fordor was 60-61. 5.5 head got me 65 with the same carb. New engine with same head and carb can do 55 easily, haven't pushed it further yet. |
