RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE Has anybody installed a rts f150 od transmission in a 34 coupe with keeping the torque tube? I need info on this combination. Does anybody make a kit? This combination keeps the shifter location near stock.

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE This is a great transmission 3 speed with od. Yes someone does convert these to torque application. However converting to a spicer/Dana 35./44 and you would remove all the problems with the original rear axle. Probably for the same price as the conversion/.

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE I would like to keep the original look. I might send the rear end to Hotrod works so they can install there axle swap kit.

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE Hotrod works is a great outfit. They can also convert the axle to a modern break kit both drum or disk. You can also change to 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern for a better selection of Wheels. I did this with the instillation of a Dana 44a rear, this comes with posi and disks and is a very inexpensive up grade compared to the Hotrod unit. I don't have the financial resources to do it any other way. Aesthetics can be expensive.

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE My friend bought one of the converted transmissions at Hershey last year. It' going in his 39. The torque tube and driveshaft need to be shortened about 2 1/2". The fella was from out east and also did them for Model As.

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE Anyone know where I can buy one of these RTS F150 transmission’s?

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE There are web sites that can access the salvage yard network. I see them on flea-pay now and then but a lot are for the 6-cylinder applications that have the taller overdrive gears. The few guys that set up conversions for these tend to hoard parts. I've looked for the better overdrive ratio gear for these but they are not easy to find.

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE Took me years to find one and I had to settle for the 6 cylinder one. I still need to find the Speedo drive housing, not sure where to look.

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE I have had the 6 cylinder version in my car for over 20 years now. I like it.

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE I did my 36 with a Flathead, T170 RTS 4 speed and a a Columbia with 3.78 R&P

Re: RTS F150 OD TRANSMISSION TORQUE Tube IN A 34 COUPE I use the steel bell housing for the engine adapter. Bore the register to fit the trans and weld ears on the bell housing. Use stock clutch assy. You can buy a kit to install a modern real axle to the car. Do not install a heavy axle as this can give poor ride quality, a Spicer 35 is light and can handle more than a flathead can put out. This make a nice street riding acr. I was talking to a tire dealer recently, and he said the 15" tire is on the way out and the 16" will continue for quite awhile. Scrap yards are full of Alum wheels and usually go for 15 25 apiece, so a nice set of rims can be had. I use a disk adapter for the front with 5 on 41/2 same as the rear, Modern trans rear axle and decent breaks and wheels . This kind of modification will make the car usable for the next 20 years or more at very little initial investment.
