This 80 plus year old Gentleman testing his pick up ,he immigrated from Austria after the war , spent time in the Gulag courtesy of the Russians ,he started a engineering business with this truck ,

Took a sec. to realise that is in NZ. How many cut down '32's are still around? Common on A's, but '32's were always rare & coveted. Must have been a roadster. Do not think that would pass a WOF [ roadworthy test] ! There is a Roadster PU in Ashburton. Cheers.

Sorry David, only one '32 Phaeton was sold new in NZ & that has disappeared, probably to the US many years ago. There are about 6 Phaetons here now, mostly imported Aussie models, but there is one Canadian RHD here I have seen [ ex. Kathmandu, Nepal] Roadsters were more available, but you would not call any '32 common in NZ. I know a guy who has about 6, all different models but no Sedans. Cheers

Green, ex-Nepal via Atlanta, Georgia. There's a great story behind that phaeton and two other '32s that were exported from Canada to Ford India and then partially disassembled and literally carried in pieces through Himalaya Mountain passes to Nepal. At the time there was no road access to Nepal from India. Jay Friedman serving with the UN health organization found them and had them restored locally in country. When he returned to the States he brought them with him.

It does appear to have a US style door latch striker rather than an Australian style on the B pillars.

At that time, New Zealand imports came directly from Canada, not Australia, hence the North American body characteristics.

If you look at the B pillar you can just see the bead , I remember a Phaeton here in the 70/80s imported from Australia .

I saw the bead too, but the north American door striker eliminates the Australian built possibility

Not sure what the point is regarding the bead as both Australian and North American '32 phaeton body's B pillars were 'beaded', i.e., had a belt molding.

That 32 truck has New Zealand number plates on it I wonder where it is N.Z. I also wonder if it has a W.O.F with no doors.

Doubt that it has had a warrant for many years ; maybe an ex farm hack?
Still cannot see any remains of Phaeton bodywork beyond door pillar. All the Phaetons from Aussie came in from '70's for rods or resto's & you would hardly import a chopped off one as no rear tubs here.
Regarding the one new recorded '32 Phaeton, a Model A friend in ChCh saw one parked near his workplace in about '68-'69. A lot of early Fords were being shipped out by US Servicemen at Deep Freeze Base, ChCh at that time. No matter, they are all returning via ebay now. There is one near me that the guy has actually hand made the rear doors ,floor, rear tub using original cowl, fenders etc into a Phaeton. He is a real old time craftsman & is known as the man who has owned the most '32's in NZ.
