Goodyear balloon marking questions After looking at all of the fantastic pictures posted by others at French Lick, I'm noticing almost everyone's tires have some markings on them which are colored. I have right now 2 Goodyears and three firestones, soon to be 4 Goodyears. The Goodyears are the ones marked Goodyear balloon, from brattons, does that narrow it down to the ones I'm speaking of?
My question is with those Goodyears is there anything that should/could be painted? Thanks! |
Re: Goodyear balloon marking questions The flag on the goodyears is painted. The pole is silver. The flag is blue and yellow. Top and bottom is yellow, left and right side is blue.

Here is one Jim Brand painted at the Oshkosh Model A meet.

Re: Goodyear balloon marking questions The flags were painted on both sides of the tire. The old Standards called for the silver stripe beginning sometime in 1931 but that was in error. That applied to 'off the shelf' Goodyear tires but not those provided by Ford.

Re: Goodyear balloon marking questions For the 21" Goodyears, the logo is painted white in the center and red around it on both sides. This is the recessed areas of these, not the lettering. Also, 21" tires have the red centering line completely around them, also on both sides. Good luck! It's a lot of detail work.

I should've specified these are the 21" tires, as Gary is describing, they do not have a flag, yet have very large lettering on the tire. I'll post a picture of my unpainted ones after work, and if someone has a photo of a painted 21" Goodyear that'd be great! |

Re: Goodyear balloon marking questions Also, I didn't take a picture of my tire, but this is the design we're speaking of on the 21" Goodyears to clarify for anyone.
