Need advice on clutch problem

My 1930 Tudor set up for several years. It is running now but the clutch pedal doesn't come all the way up unless I stick a toe under it and pull it up. This causes the clutch to slip until I pull it up. Is there a spring broken or is this some kind of adjustment problem? I searched the archive but did not find this particular problem. Any advice would be appreciated.

sounds to me like the pedal needs to be lubricated where it pivots on the shaft.

Re: Need advice on clutch problem

The springs in the pressure plate should knock the pedal back fairly strongly There is a light weight spring in the bell housing that pulls the pedal back the last little bit so that the throw out bearing will be clear of the pressure plate.

I'd lube the shaft as fullrace suggests. I'd also remove the inspection plate on the bellhousing and lube the throw out bearing and try to get a little grease on the pilot shaft where the TO bearing runs. I'd then stab the clutch several times hard and let the pedal come up quickly (with the car not running).

Thanks Full Race and Dick S. That is what I was looking for. I'm sure everything is probably dry and could use a good lubing up but just did not think of it myself. I will give it a try for sure.

as mentioned, maybe the TO collar spring has broken. Easy to check. Also give the collar zerk a shot of grease.

I had the same problem, lubed the pedal shaft and the zerk in the bell housing and everything is nice and smooth and the pedal comes all the way up now.
