Cam Gear Noise

I have finally determined that the noise i have been hearing is cam gear noise. it happens at about 2000 RPM under light load. I'm using the aluminum gear. Ford used a fiber gear to eliminate the noise. my questions are:
1) is this common?
2) is this something i should be concerned about or just let it annoy me.

Never heard cam gear noise, not sure what can cause it. But, someone here will know.

Re: Cam Gear Noise

I'm trying to figure why light load would change the noise if it's cam/crank gear related. There is so little difference in loading on the cam and gears whether or not the engine is loaded, accelerating or decelerating. I guess a backlash check and gear inspection might tell something, but cross your fingers...

If there is no fillings in your oil at change then your exhaust is too quite!:D

Also you may have to check the length of the four bolts that secure the gear to the camshaft, making sure one or all four don’t stick out the back side too much. The front block plug is also in this area.....make sure it’s flush with the block.
