hard starting
 

My 39 pickup won't start until the fuel pump has drawn gas from the tank. I've replaced the fuel pump and rebuild the prime and spare carbs. I need to replace the fuel line because it is copper, not copper clad.
What could be the problem?

Air leak, bad check valves. I like the bowl pumps as there is fuel at the pump and it also catches sediment.


Sherman??? selling his flex hoses with a check valve yet?

My thought on copper lines. Unless you you are running a high pressure fuel injection system, straight copper will last more then you or I will experience a failure. 10lds of pressure is not much. More from my shower or sink. Never for brakes!

Common problem. Sometimes slow leak of gas into manifold when parked but as said air leak or faulty check valves in pump. Some (like my self) have an auxiliary electric pump at tank and run it for 4 -10 seconds by toggle switch to prime carb.

I picked up some pumps from Dennis/macs (I'll look it up as I have the paper). I know, I know... 5yrs. Got a couple off the good batch.

Think CharlieNY rebuilds fuel pumps with correct check valves. Nobody makes a kit that I know and most are not rebuild able.
