Early '28 vs Late '28
 

Newbie here.
I have a '28 Phaeton. When looking for parts I see parts for early '28s and different variations of parts for late '28s. There is a date stamp on the driver side firewall of my Phaeton that says 6-29-28. Is that a late '28 or an early '28? Are there a lot of differences between early and late '28s. Did they find a lot of things to fix/change?

Welcome to Ford Barn. To answer your question would take up just to much time for me and others to tell you everything.

I suggest that you get a copy of the MARC/MAFCA Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards...This "book" will tell you everything you want to know and then some.

The "date stamp" on the fire wall is, we think, the date the gas tank was tested. Sometimes the date stamp is the same as when the engine was stamped...sometimes not.

Being a June 1928 stamp would place your car in the "mid" 1928 range.

And yes, there are a ton of differences that were made as time progressed through 1928.

Another great book is the Model A Ford Service Bulletins. Get both of these and have a ball getting to know your Model A Ford and Join a local MARC or MAFCA club in your area.

I see you are in Canada, if your car was assembled in Canada, it will probably have an engine number starting with CA..... It will probably still have the early brake system, with the handbrake lever on the left beside the cowl. If possible post some pictures which will give us a better idea of when your car was assembled.

Restore the "A" as you found it.

After it is restored and you decided to have it Judged at a meet, the earlier items would be covered under the 60 day rule. As long as there was nothing wrong with the older part the Assemble Plants were directed to use up old parts before using the new part,

As stated by Pluck, get a copy of the Judging Standards.

Yep june 28 could be either way or have a mix of early and later bits.

As said if it is Canadian, it should have a CA engine number prefix and , if Canadian home cars are the same as we got here in OZ, no chassis number.

Canadian will have robertson screws in stanchions and dash panel.
