The first women to circumnavigate the world in a car

Hi

It's not a model A, it's a T, but nevertheless I thought it is a story that many would like to read. In my case I didn't have idea that she existed.

They say Helen Keller would have accomplished twice as much if she'd been a man. Imagine what this fine lady could have accomplished. ;)

I'll admit her life sounds like a fairytale as far as the adventure part goes. I couldn't have left my kids to do it as she did but I do understand the allure. Imagine the excitement, fear, all of it that she felt. Yeah I'm jealous

When my kids were teenagers, it wouldn't have taken much for me to take off! Of course, they're just fine now.

Every country and every era has people like her and it's just as well, too. We all need someone to inspire us to rise above the rut we would otherwise dwell in.
I've read the book written by Ben Carlin (not the guy most of you are thinking of) about his "voyage" accross the Atlantic in a WWII Jeep with no communication equipment.

His vehicle is on display at his old school in Perth, Western Australia (Guildford Grammar, I believe)

Nice pictures attached. Thank you.

What an adventurer life. I will read back the article I posted. I think a book is mentioned. I will look for it.

Have Henry Ford financially supported her trips and uses them as a marketing tool ?

To my question, i found this:

....In 1922, Idris Galcia Hall was a 16 year old schoolgirl when she answered an ad placed in the Paris Herald by self-styled adventurer Walter Wanderwell, who was just starting out to break the world’s long distance automobile record in an expedition jumpstarted by Henry Ford’s donation of a pair of Model-Ts.....

As expected, Henry Ford was involved.

Cheers
Daniel

Nice to know for when we Tour with our model As. :-)

.....On their trip they used kerosene for gasoline, crushed bananas for grease in the differential and water and elephant fat for oil in the engine.....

...one of which was the 30 Deluxe Phaeton with interesting trunk extension and trailer. She also had later Fords.

Unless you're touring Africa or southern Asia, that elephant fat engine oil might be hard to find. :D

One of my teachers in high school (MANY years ago) was a teen in WWII. He said they used kerosene when the gas ration ran out - it also was rationed but apparently easier to come by than gas.
