Have mechanical fuel pump and electric pump on toggle switch have dual 97 type carbs a fuel block with pressure gauge all braided stainless lines fuel pressure is good when cold with just the mechanical or with electric on but after driving a few miles gauge shows 0 pressure and will run out of fuel with just the mechanical but will keep running with the electric turned on even tho the gauge still shows 0 pressure also has a fuel pressure regulator have tried setting it from 2 to 5 lbs pressure which works when cold nothing when warmed up. Thinking maybe a bad line but need some ideas. This is on my 52 Victoria.

You probably have a liquid filled pressure gauge, which is sealed to prevent leakage of the liquid. The liquid dampens vibrations in the gauge, but when hot builds up pressure inside the gauge. If the gauge has a little rubber stopper in the top, remove it and see if pressure indication returns. I solved the same problem by replacing the gauge with one that is not liquid filled.

Do have liquid filled gauge so that could be part of the problem thanks drolston haven't checked it yet, But it still starves out of gas when warmed up with the electric pump turned off, Wonder if draining some of the liquid out would help the gauge?

There are articles online about drilling and removing the fluid in the gauges.

Once you get the gauge problem resolved, you will be better able to diagnose the fuel starvation problem on mechanical, versus electric.

The liquid filled gauge did start working when I pulled the rubber stopper out some liquid ran out just left it out for now, Drove a few miles warmed up good with the electric pump off no sign of fuel problem shut off a few minutes restarted still good fuel pressure without electric on. Kinda strange to me but all good for now. Thank You

You should be good to run with that stopper out, as long as you keep the car right side up Occasional fuel starvation when running on only the mechanical pump is probably due to vapor lock, which is prevalent in hot weather with ethanol in our gas.

Ditto on the liquid filled gauge problem. If it has a rubber plug you can burp it and/or remove some fluid.

I have same issue. No fuel gauge as of now. Replaced engine and added dual carb set up. Reused mech fuel pump that worked fine with old worn out engine with single carb. Now the engine runs good with both mech and elect pump but after elect pump is shut off it will die in a short amount of time.


I took off the fuel pressure regulator to eliminate that as a problem.
Guessing I need to add a gauge to see how much pressure the mech pump is putting out?

Some electrical pumps block flow when not running. The kind you should use allows fuel to be dranw through, even when turned off.

If that is not the problem, disconnect fuel line from pump and crank the engine (ignition off, no smoking!). A cup to catch the fuel is a good idea. The mechanical pump should spurt about a tablespoon with each cycle.

Ok, so how do we know what fuel pump to look for that will allow a mechanical pump to push through.?

Both pumps were on car previously before engine swap.
The glass filter bowl remains full

I will try to take fuel line off and crank it with elect pump off and see what I get in a few days when I get off work.
