Steering box gaskets

Getting ready to start up my 31 truck after many years. I'm changing all fluids engine, trans, differential, steering box. Filled the steering box yesterday and noticed it's leaking this morning. May eventually have to pull and rebuild. Has anyone just replaced the gaskets without removing the steering box.

Re: Steering box gaskets

If it's leaking from around the light switch you can change that without pulling...but if it's leaking from the sector housing you will have no choice but to pull the box.

Re: Steering box gaskets

the large cork can fail over time requiring pulling the housing. Someone mentioned in a post to buy a washer with a rubber or sealed insert for the side sector screw and nut. O' rielly's or Napa has them in a pack of 2. Also, some prefer staying with the bronze sector bushing which may not leak as much as the needle types. Adding an o ring or seal at the frame can help requiring pulling the housing also.
