Service Truck

Maybe one of the members would be willing to post a link for me....
Go to Bring A Trailer
Use the search for : Ford Model A
There you will see the service truck that is now being auctioned.
Go there.... and put a link here on the Barn if you would.
My tablet will not allow me to do this.

Question.... how rare is this Pickup?
What in your opinion will this sell for on the auction?
Just curious

Thank you
Gil. NoCal

Re: Service Truck

I like odd Model A's.

Sorry Y-Blockhead, didn't mean to step on you there .....

I've only seen a couple of telephone trucks, one was a mid 50's Ford at a show when I was little, memory is foggy on that, the other is a 46? Marmon and Herrington of my father's, not too many around in my opinion. But they were Mountain Bell trucks.

Re: Service Truck

There is a pic of one of these [ but open cab] with the exact box on the back for communications work in Ford Model A Album by L Henry. I know no one looks at Model A books now, but it proves this is an original one. Cheers.

Re: Service Truck

Cool truck BUT this car was unfortunately redone by an amateur and is starting to become a problem: Wiper motor works sporadically, leaky waterpump, pinholes in the fenders, clutch problem, MAJOR rust issues in the bottoms of those doors, and on the undercarriage. Although the truck may be rare, it was redone by an amateur at best and everything will need a good run through for the next owner. I wonder how much it will be worth to the next person?

I understand the high standards applied to fine point restorations, even standards held by others, you are the judge. In my opinion that truck presents well and is worthy of a fair price.

Re: Service Truck

The picture looks pretty good !!! the thing that jumps out at me is that the door locks were obviously not rebuilt . The outer door handles tells the story but no big deal .

That truck looks a lot like one that was for sale in Glendora about a year ago here in Southern California. I didn’t go look at it because I prefer a regular pickup bed.

Re: Service Truck

That's what I would call a good driver. It looks good, looks proud, but a guy wouldn't be heartbroken if it gets dirty, or if a kid wants to sit in it, or or or..... I enjoy those a lot more than show cars.

Re: Service Truck

A search for the truck brings up several listings in different "vehicle located in" cities.

Don't know if it is the same or different.

Without the knowledge of the defects above but "bring your trailer" auction site shows me this nearly a last ditch to sell it, I will say 12 as the top bid.

If it was on another site, say, ebay I would have expected 13-15.

Knowing the defects listed above in other posts, 5-7 grand.

Again this is just my opinion from someone that is not impressed with the vehicle as a whole even if it was done correctly so maybe I'm a little low.

Re: Service Truck

After looking at the pictures closer, I'm a little puzzled. Shouldn't the drawers have been wood in 31? The hinges and latches and other hardware on the bed just seem "newer". Think it could have been put into service later in life as opposed to new? Think it's something somebody built as a look alike? Still a cool little truck.

I'm not a bidder and this is the first time I've seen this truck, but I think you are overstating the defects.

Wiper motor probably does need a rebuild...or at least a little lube on the seals.

Water pump may need replacement, or perhaps the shaft nut needs to be tightened a little.

May need a clutch or maybe it needs to be driven a little and the clutch slipped a little. Pretty common for the clutch to be "grabby" as described if the truck has not been driven in a while. Most smooth out after some miles.

Nothing is said about pinholes in the fenders only "seller reports the presence of pinholes in the paint finish on the fenders"

No MAJOR rust issues. Seller states "There is only a little surface rust on the inside bottom of the doors as shown in the pics (no rust through)"

I agree that it is probably an amateur restoration. If you are looking for a ready to show, fine point restored phone truck, this isn't the one. If you want an A truck that if fairly unique and won't break the bank, this one may qualify.

Re: Service Truck

The Beller museum has a '28-29 model very similar. It has not been restored as yet.
