Fuel Shut Off Valve leaking

1 Attachment(s)
Might have been our last cruise 2012 today

Cold but dry again and still no salt on streets so ...
( half of an hour to get motor running propper as still on W50 oil ).

We had a good time out there, but -

Fuel shut off valve (inside under dash) is leaking

Any ideas how to fix or just buy a new one (leak-free) ???

Thank you
Christoph

Re: Fuel Shut Off Valve leaking

The design of the valve is a plug valve. I built a tapered cast iron lapping tool to lap the seat and tried skin cutting the plug, not worth the time and limited success. I just buy a new one and replace them.

I lapped mine with toothpaste and installed new packing. It turns easy and hasn't leaked a drop in 10 years. I like to keep original parts whenever possible.

I wonder if the originals hold up better. I had to replace mine like in the above post. I tried lapping it and new packing but eventually leaked again.
I was told there's something about a tiny groove that gets scratched between the in and out ports and keeps leaking.
I have two leaky valves under the bench.

I always install the fine mess screen in the valve. It will help to keep any junk from scratching the valve.
