1930 Coupe Owned 76 years And Counting I acquired my 1930 Standard Coupe on February 22nd, 1941. Today completes 76 years of ownership and starts the 77th year. It is currently stored for the winter, the roads have salt residue, and I am way from home today so it will not venture out for a ride. Over the years it has had mechanical maintenance as needed and enjoyed a paint job and a LeBaron Bonney upholstery kit around 1990, Don't ask how many miles it has been as the speedometer has not worked for over 50 years, ever since I put an early Borg Warner overdrive in it and as a result it needed a longer speedo cable. It evolved over the years from being my only car, then a second car, then an antique soon after joining MARC in May, 1954. It shares barn space with a 1929 "A" Phaeton acquired in 1954. By the way the Coupe was not my first Model A as I had an earlier 1930 Coupe in 1937, an "A" Fordor in 1939 and in between a 1929 Essex. The Essex was a real dog but because of the copper and brass used in its manufacturer its junkyard value was $3 more than a Model A junkyard value, so a $7 car was sold for $10.

Re: 1930 Coupe Owned 76 years And Counting Congratulations !
Not for the 76 years with the same Model A - but for the fact that you MUST be 120 years old ! |

Re: 1930 Coupe Owned 76 years And Counting Congratulations Rich, and glad to hear you are doing well. You have the good genes of your father, who lived a good long life. You did not mention the AA express, so I am guessing you sold that. Keep up the good work.

Re: 1930 Coupe Owned 76 years And Counting If you do not mind Asking what did you pay for it then , what shape was it in .it was a 11 year old car then am I am just curious as to what it would have cost then,
Also how old were you when you got it. Congratulations on such a smart purchase. I and others wish we had kept the great cars and such along the way that we let go of . You made a wise investment that's paid you back way more along the way than what you paid for it. |

Re: 1930 Coupe Owned 76 years And Counting Wow! You tied a record from my home town - a Mr. Allen Swift from West Hartford, CT owned his 1928 Springfield RR from new to his death, I believe at age 102 a 77 year run. I remember seeing it around town which was always exciting to me.
The car now resides in a museum in Springfield, MA - he left the car and an endowment to keep it safe and sound. Congrats and hope many more years are in store for you and your A! https://springfieldmuseums.org/colle...pringfield-ma/ |
