Tragedy in a Model "A" Ford Coupe

1 Attachment(s)
this was a huge local scandal in the late '20s, when an Ohio State University professor murdered a co-ed in this car. They were having an affair and the event still occasionally receives publicity locally, after all these decades. This car exists today and is owned by a collector somewhere in Ohio.

Do you have a website that tells the rest of the story?

google "Dr. James H. Snook" and you will get some hits. I think there are some message boards about it. The testimony was so scandalous for the day, women were knocking themselves over to get a seat in the court room.

Thank goodness that is 'old' news, by the title I thought we lost another A'er in an accident.....

I wonder if the phrase "getting Snooked" in a car transaction had anything to do with this?

actual phrase is "getting snookered" and I think it's a reference to a billiards game of the same name.

Yes, now that you mention snookered, my memory comes back. I'm getting so old that I can't remember what those little brown pills are for.:)

LOL while you guys are comparing medicines, perhaps you haven't noticed (or maybe the posted pic does not reveal it as clearly as mine) that Dr. Snook had a Goodyear advertising tire cover on his spare. This was anathema to the Ford Company, according to the various service bulletins and letters we read.

Ericr: The photo you show is a 45-A, special coupe. Here's a link to a photo in the "Columbus Underground" dated February 14, 2012 that the Columbus (Ohio) Historical Society claims is James Snook's car, but it's a 50-A (sport coupe):

egads, we have an identity crisis here! The photo I attached is attributed to our local newspaper and obviously it is an old pic. I hate to think my source misled me and supplied me with a mis-labelled photo. I doubt Dr. Snook had two cars so I will go to the library and try to find newspaper articles about this aspect.

The 45-A is a std coupe, not a special coupe. The standard coupe does not have top material around the rear of the roof. You can just make out the vertical seems of the roof material outboard of the rear window. This makes the original photo a 49-A special coupe.
